Limited irrigation is focus of Colorado/Nebraska Crop Clinc Dec. 2-3
Colorado State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are jointly hosting this year’s Crop Clinic on Limited Irrigation Systems Dec. 2 and 3 at Sterling, Colo.Registrations are limited and will be taken until the program maximum is filled. 2009 Range Beef Cow Symposium set for Dec. 1-3 at Casper
The 2009 Range Beef Cow Symposium is scheduled for Dec. 1-3 at the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyo. It is sponsored by the University of Nebraska, University of Wyoming, South Dakota State University and Colorado State University.
Estate planning workshops planned in December for Sidney, Scottsbluff, Alliance, Thedford
Farmers and ranchers who do not have a will or estate plan might leave behind something they never intended – struggles and headaches for their family. Estate planning might seem complicated, but the best step to take is the first one. Farmers and ranchers can receive help to start, and then finish, their estate plans at a series of estate planning workshops in December at Sidney, Scottsbluff, Alliance and Thedford hosted by UNL Extension, through a grant from the North Central Risk Management Education Center.
2010 National Western 4-H Catch-A-Calf applicants sought
A limited number of 4-H members have the opportunity to catch a calf each January during the National Western Stock Show. Winners will receive calves in May 2010, feed them to a market finish, and show them at the National Western Stock Show in January 2011. Interested 4-H members should contact their local Extension Educators for more information and an application.
Dry bean breeding specialist wins excellence award
Dr. Carlos Urrea, dry edible bean breeding specialist at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center, was one of the recipients of the 2009 Award for Excellence from the Western Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors. The award was presented at the 20th biennial meeting of the Bean Improvement Cooperative Oct. 25-28 at Fort Collins, Colo. Urrea and fellow committee members were recognized for “outstanding contributions to Western Region multistate research.”
UNL appoints extension nutrition specialist at Panhandle Center
Dr. Lisa Franzen has been appointed Extension Nutrition Specialist at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center.
Franzen’s appointment was announced by Panhandle Center Director Dr. Linda Boeckner. She began her duties Sept. 14, filling the position vacated by Boeckner’s appointment as director.
